Romanticize Your Life

We all deserve a little romance in our lives. Instead of waiting for others to make a sweet gesture or to plan an elaborate night, we have the power to bring loving moments into our lives whenever we desire. In this post, we are sharing three concepts for creating fun, loving and nurturing experiences, even in the most seemingly mundane solo activities.

SET THE MOOD

Our environment plays a significant role in our mood and overall sense of wellness. Creating ambiance in our day-to-day lives has the power to make us feel special, supported and comforted. Designing our surroundings does not have to be an elaborate interior project or cost a lot of money. In fact, the simplest actions can make a big difference.

Why save the fancy glasses for special occasions? Drinking water out of a fancy wine glass instead of a Stanley Cup can have a big impact on how you feel. Putting on some soothing music while showering or lighting a candle during dinner can have amazing effects on our moods and experiences. There are countless ways to satisfy our five senses. Get creative and enjoy the moment!

MAKE THE EFFORT

Creating a welcoming and uplifting experience at home is a beautiful way to show ourselves some love. This includes taking the extra step in order to establish our standards. Decluttering our space, getting dressed for the day even if we aren’t going anywhere, or picking up some flowers for our desk can set us up for feelings of worthiness, self-love and appreciation. Making the effort to do these things is not necessary which is why we often neglect taking good care of ourselves or our space until we have guests coming over. But think - how often does a messy home inspire romance and intimacy?

Similar to romantic relationships with a partner, we need to actively pursue and cultivate these moments. I invite you to make an effort during your next solo meal. Make yourself a delicious meal and go the extra mile by setting the table and mindfully plate the food in a visually appealing way to you. Put on some music or your favorite movie. These little extra acts of self-love can transform your routine into a special moment and boost your appreciation for yourself and your environment.

BE EXTRA NICE TO YOURSELF
It is easy to get in the habit of obsessing about our imperfections, decisions and appearances. Our inner dialogue can often over-dramaticize circumstances to the point of feeding ourselves negative and false narratives. Words and thoughts are powerful and they help shape our moods and realities.

Speaking kindly about ourselves, acknowledging our values and practicing self-compassion can change our lives, improve our mental health and foster more love in our lives. The next time a love song comes on the radio - dedicate it to yourself!

By investing time and attention in romanticizing our days, we fill your cup in otherwise unproductive situations, and set high standards for others in our life. What other ideas can you come up with to create more fun, special, self-loving moments? Feel free to share in the comments!
